When Shilpi's parents first contacted us, we asked for their permission to let me and the girl talk for a couple of months before we could finalize anything. Normally, girl and boy get a lot of time to talk to each other after engagement, but its very unusual to let them talk to each other in the initial phases, that too for a couple of months!
